We are currently hiring for a Americorps VISTA.

We need help building out our processes for recruiting, assessing, and retaining employers for our veteran networking events. This is a new role, but one that we intend to use the VISTA program as a launch pad for. We are refining and expanding our personal donor program at this time to bring a higher level of consistent funding to the organization which will allow us to expand. 

Member Duties:

The Careers Program VISTA will expand capacity of our already successful career program allowing the organization to advance the careers of our veteran members. The VISTA will be conducting assessments of veterans in career transition we will be able to go deeper with the assessment and follow up with members. The VISTA will also assist in conducting and standing up new iterations of our successful Warrior for Life professional networking luncheon. VISTA will also attend outreach events like job fairs to represent LSVA and promote our programming while recruiting veterans in career transition for Warrior for Life.

 

General Description:

Do you have a passion for working with veterans? Have you or a close family member served our country in the Armed Forces? LSVA is the largest membership organization for post-9/11 veterans in Texas. 1 in 12 of these veterans are members with LSVA in Houston. We need a great VISTA to help build capacity for our organization so we can continue to build on our previous success and go statewide. This is your opportunity to be part of a new type of veteran service organization launching highly successful veterans into the next phase of their personal and professional lives. This role requires self motivation and drive, but also has the reward of working with some of our country’s finest and seeing the impact that they make in the community for others.

Outreach with employers through email, phone and , social media. Conducting needs assessments and follow ups with employers and veterans. Attending job fairs to to promote programming as well as LSVA programs: professional networking events, workshops, and coaching. Building systems and processes for the Careers Program that can be utilized by future organization members

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals
and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on
a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build
the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that assist low-income
communities.

Qualifications:
- Some College
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Leadership and Community Organization Skills
- Independent self-starter
 -A passion for working with veterans
